Plan S: The Push for Full and Immediate Open Access

Background

cOAlition S is a group of charitable and international funders and research organizations working together to make all scholarly publications immediately and freely available to the public. With the goal of accelerating the transition to full and immediate Open Access, Plan S is a set of principles and requirements developed by cOAlition S.

Plan S Principles

Plan S is based on the following principles:

• All research publications resulting from research funded by public or private grants must be published in Open Access journals, platforms, or repositories.
• Authors retain the copyright to their work and are permitted to share it broadly under a Creative Commons license.
• Open Access must be implemented immediately for all newly funded research.

cOAlition S Membership

cOAlition S currently consists of 29 members from 16 countries. Members include national research funding agencies, international organizations, and charitable foundations. The membership is growing rapidly, reflecting the widespread support for Plan S.
