Central Statistics Office CSO Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has Revised the Base Year of the Consumer Price Index CPI
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has revised the base year of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 2012 to 2016.
The new base year will be used for calculating the CPI from January 2016 onwards. The CPI is a measure of the average change in prices over time for a fixed basket of goods and services purchased by urban households in India.
The revision of the base year is done every five years to reflect changes in consumption patterns and to ensure that the CPI remains relevant and accurate.
